15th Capability Training

For its 15th Capability Training, ALCUCOA flew to Bacolod, the "City of Smile" in July 26-28, 2017. The theme "Strategizing for the New Frontier" was conceptualized to examine the roots of higher education in the Philippines and interrogate how the commitments of Higher Education Institutions’ (HEIs) have changed over the last century. The presentations focused on critical areas of development such as school culture, school structure, quality instruction, and campus-community - industry partnerships.
The training was grounded on four objectives: 1. To discuss consensus-building process among decision makers, implementation of innovative phasing approaches, and incorporate flexibility within an organization; 2. To identify planning priorities for collaboration in LCU environment; 3. To review the impacts of innovation places on local and regional economic development; 4. To prepare for obstacles and considerations when pursuing innovation environments.
The resource speaker for this training was the Executive Vice President of University of Makati and ALCUCOA’s President and Executive Director Dr. Raymundo P. Arcega who himself is an authority in strategic planning and management. The sessions consisted of presentations on "Why Strategic Thinking?" "Revisiting Vision-Mission," "Understanding the Environment," "Setting Objectives," "Formulating Strategies," and "Leading Strategic Change."
In a nutshell the entire training offered a framework for thinking about some of the most promising innovations in contemporary higher education through a process of strategic thinking, planning, and design. In response to outcomes-based education and accreditation challenges, an innovative and reimagined campus environment is expected to thrive within the context of the new frontier.
